張翰近期演出電影「詭鄉」，片中與初孟軒有父子難以啟齒的鴻溝，現實生活中他有個8歲女兒，張翰自認在家是黑臉角色，但愛妻林利霏抗癌時期，其實女兒都知道，他也感嘆因此看見女兒的成長，「孩子長大真的很快！」 張翰坦言，當父親非常不容易：「我這代剛好是在解嚴之後成長的那代，正好介於中間，我一直相信我們這代能理解上、下世代，算是開始改變的世代。」但有時候他也會被自己的情緒嚇到，「我也知道我有時候可能太兇，但就希望女兒可以記得一些事情，不過很難啦！這部分我也有很多需要調整的地方」。

面對世代差異，張翰表示，父母那一代都想把傳統華人的父子關係傳承，「很多上一代什麼都不會講自己頂著，可能小孩無法理解」。但張翰當了爸爸後變化非常大，如何調整心態他仍在學習：「孩子長大很快，看著她一天一天長大變化非常大，我現在年紀也不小了，覺得父母要多多珍惜孩子還在身邊。」 雖然現實生活中是個會罵也會碎念的父親，但張翰透露其實女兒是個非常細心的小孩：「我最近才被她感動到，有天我前1秒才在碎念她，然後下1秒我在吃藥，她就默默把水杯推給我，當下其實很感動，但我沒辦法表達，因為上1秒我還在念她。」
